As briefly discussed on the "Why Marry Away" page, a wedding day away is an opportunity for you to cast off the shackles of traditional formality and the traditional format for your wedding.
Instead your wedding can be a reflection of who you truly are.
You do however have some decisions to make, decisions we advise you to make early on in the process. Do your homework and decide what is most important to you.
Here are some idea's and tips for you to think about.
Unforgettable But Economical
If you are looking for a beautiful location, that doesn't require too much travel for your (US based) guests then consider the Caribbean, Hawaii or Mexico.
Currently the most popular destinations for weddings away, these locations are relatively close (To the US) so travel arrangements are easy and costs are relatively inexpensive, enabling more of your invites to attend. The tourist boards of these countries have been actively seeking visitors, especially wedding couples, for many years and are well set up to make nuptials easy and straight forward, including the necessary paperwork for foreigners marrying in their country. Resorts are plentiful, reasonably priced and many offer onsite ceremonies and receptions. Again a cost saving factor. Activities are numerous for all ages making these locations fun and memorable.
Picture Book Weddings
For some of us getting away just isn't enough. Are you one of those who has been planning your wedding day ever since you little. Did you dream of the perfect "Picture book" wedding? Well make it a reality. There are a large number of locations featuring castles, carriages and more.
You may need to consider the travel aspect of these weddings away as Europe is the prime destination for royal retreats and even medieval-set marriages. Don't worry about the complicated arrangements. Wedding Day Away's consultants and planners have experience with every type of wedding (Castles, palaces and country estates, even arranging a horse drawn carriage).
Also consider weddings in Italy, especially Tuscany, you will melt over the scenery alone. The Vineyards of Tuscany, the Garden of Heaven as some call them, are a popular choice amongst the rich and famous and could be ideal for you.
Decide on what is the minimum level of luxury for your big day. If you and your guests can handle dropping some of your home comforts then something completely different, such as a tropical forest wedding in Fiji or a mountain top wedding in Argentina, could be in your future.
Plan ahead and give your intended invitees as much notice as you can. We recommend sending out save the dates, with details of the location, as far as six to nine months in advance. Your invitees will need to plan a vacation not just a couple of days to make your big day.
Arrive at your location at least two if not three days in advance of your nuptials. If there are any problems, issues or obstacles to overcome before the "I do's" then you have plenty of time to resolve them.
Block book. Work with your Wedding Day Away representative to block book travel and hotels. This will save everyone time and money. Make sure to notify your guests (Perhaps on the save the date cards) of this so they do not spend more money booking independently.
The best man, the matron of honor and the wedding party. To avoid any awkwardness make sure you have told those you are to ask to be in your wedding party, of your intention to marry away well in advance of asking them. This will avoid them feeling obligated to commit when they are unsure they can commit the time or money to travel out.
In conclusion, anything is possible so check out the full list of locations to find the one that is right for you!
